When I started this film, I found out it was based on a true-life story. After taking a break to read the Wikipedia page on it, I wished the boy, Joe Kane, didn’t die.
However, after completing the movie, I was glad he died. He was damaged beyond repair. His father damaged him. There was no way he was going to live a normal life after the rubbish his father mentally forced fed him, and after he had murdered two officers.

Sometimes, our destiny puts us on a path to destruction, and that was the fate of Joe Kane. What could a young boy have done other than to trust his father even when he knew his dad was a nutjob?
This made me wonder, should he have run away? Should he have reported his father? Maybe. Maybe that way, he could have charted a different course for himself. But why should children be burdened with the responsibility of deciding what their lives will be at such a young age?
